These days we are exposed to ads wherever we are and no matter where we are. Each year, we are exposed to ten thousand ads in average. They try to sell us their product by using beautiful art, videos, images or slogans that are catchy. Many of those companies are well established in their industry fields and they are recognizable by their respective logos. The most prolific companies have highly popular logos that can be recognized by almost everybody. For example, there is a vast majority of people who can easily recognize the Apple logo or the Coca-Cola or many car companies. For those of you who have seen the movie ''Finding Forrester'', with Sean Connery, there is that scene where Jamal walks up to some guy with a BMW and asks him what does the car logo mean. The man did not know the answer and since that day, whenever I see a famous company logo I try to find the meaning of it. Below, you can find some of the most famous logos you can find.
Adidas
The
Adidas company logo is quite simple, yet very attractive and its
meaning is simple. It was originally created by Adi Dassler in 1967,
meaning the company name comes from the founder's name. The logo simply
represents a mountain pointing out towards the challenges that await us
and that can be achieved. There is an old logo shaped like a flower but
it also has the same meaning that the one on the right.
Audi
This
business logo is very popular and it's one of the competitors of BMW.
The four rings could be interpreted as many things like four elements or
four nations but the truth is elsewhere. In the 1930's, four different
car manufacturing existed and they were respectively called: Audi, DKW,
Horch and the last one is Wanderer. They decided to get together and
create one company; Audi. The logo company was not used right away. It
took 30 years to see the four rings for the first time.
BMW
BMW
was founded in Germany in 1916. The business logo of this company is
easily recognizable by anyone and most people know the prestige related
to their manufactured cars. Nevertheless, the true meaning is a bit
controversial. One side of the story tells us that it represents a
rotating propeller from an airplane because BMW used to manufacture
airplanes in Munich. The other version explains us that the blue and
white triangles are taken from the Bavarian flag, which is the place
where they were manufactured. It's your choice to pick your best version
of the story! (I personally believe it's the second version)
Ferrari
Many
think the horse on the Ferrari logo represents the horsepower of the
cars they manufacture. The story behind it is far more interesting.
During World War I, an aviator, Count Francesco Barraca, painted the
stallion on his airplane to bring him luck. He had it on his plane
because it was the logo of his squadron, the Cavalry Regiment. His
mother then convinced Enzo Ferrari to put the logo on his racing cars in
the early 1930's to bring good luck to the drivers. The logo then
stayed the same ever since. The yellow on the background represents the
birthplace of Enzo Ferrari, Modena
Mercedes Benz
The
history of Mercedes goes way back in time. From a fusion with Daimler
Chrysler in 1928 to naming the company after a daughter, they have
overcome many obstacles through time. The logo company of this car
manufacturer consists of a three pointed star. It represents the
domination of the company over the land, the sea and the air. The name
Mercedes comes from Maybach, when he decided to name the company after
his daughter I believe, who was called Mercedes.
Porsche
The
meaning of the Porsche logo is quite simple. The cars are manufactured
in Stuttgart, Germany, and that is why it has the Stuttgart coat of arms
in the middle. Also, the city was built next to a horse farm. The
antlers on each side are represented on the arms of the Wruttenberg
Kingdom. As for the red and black striped, they are the two colors on
the flag of the Wruttenberg Kingdom. This is one of my favorite car
logos because of the prestige it represents but also to its colors. The
gold mixed with the red and black make a perfect match.
Starbucks
It
all started in 1971, in Seattle, for Starbucks. What was at the time a
small coffee shop is now one of the biggest coffee and tea companies in
the world. The siren represented on the logo is now known by any coffee
drinker. But where does that siren come from and why did Starbucks
initially put it in their logo?
The mermaid is a mythological sea creature with the look of a female, the only difference being they have a tail of a fish. But no need to tell you what a mermaid is since most of us have seen Walt Disney's ''The Little Mermaid''. The reason why Starbucks incorporated one in their company logo is because it was believed mermaids used to sing to sailors in order to make them walk away from their ship or to ground their ships. In the era of 1500, spices, tea and coffee was a popular merchandise to trade. So the mermaid in the logo of Starbucks is the one that ''brings'' coffee and tea to the stores.
